This dubstep track was produced mid 2007, its got slow breaky beats and well heavy gangsta basslines, ENJOY!

RUNNING HARD

Level1 Green Skull And Crossbones Animation

 www.kierantaylor.net/vids/level1spin.avi

This was done last year sometime with the help of SdZ (over at level-1.org.uk) over a couple of evenings, we managed to come up with a new skull and crossbones logo for the level-1 site in Blender 3d. We then decided to animate it for good measure.

Seizmic Myspace Background

seizmic3.jpgSeizmic asked if he could have a new mypace background, so I knocked this little number up for him. To see it in action go to www.myspace.com/seizmic.

This started off as a cube which was then subdivided about 6 or 7 times giving it loads more polygons. Using the sculpt function on grab mode i began to distort it into the shape that is in the picture. I made the material red with green colour ramps and yellow specular with reflection maps.

I then added the text extruding the back face for depth and used a white material with light emmision (can make it appear brighter because the object emits light). After that I added an area light and encased it all in a black shadeless cube so that the reflection maps worked properly.

Yep, another track it was done in mid 2007. This one has a sort of dubstep, breaky feel to it. Download and enjoy the basslines!

1024×768 Cuboids And Trapezoids Background

oblong.jpgoblong1.jpgOK, these two images were also done in blender 3d. In this set i was trying to experiment with forced perspective.

Starting of with a cube, I then grabbed one face and pulled it so it made a cuboid. Then I duplicated the mesh several times over, and on some of them i used the grab tool on the top and bottom faces to give it an incline making them trapeziods.

After that phase I then began to place the objects in the composition, scaling the near ones large and the far away ones small giving more to the illusion of perspective. Then a black shadeless cube was made for the boundary to encase all these objects.

Grouping all the trapeziods and cuboids together to make it easier to give them materials(instead of one at a time), I made them a shade of purple with blue colour ramps, specular and reflection maps enabled with an index of reflection at about 0.30.

Finally I added two light sources, one white non volumetric area light right at the bottom near the camera so that the underneath of the objets were illuminated. Then one purple volumetric spotlight place right at the top near to an estimated vanishing point.

One image was kept as is and the other was taken into photoshop and made grey scale with a bit of contrast added.

These images can be used as backgrounds for your computer, the size is 1024×768 pixels

Cad Technicians Myspace Background

cad technicians background 1024×768I created this background for the CAD TECHNICIANS myspace page, I didn’t end up using it for the background because it interfered too much with the content.  So, I am putting up here for download for your own computer background (1024×768 pixels).

Now for the details…

Using a cube, I extruded the faces to make the arrow shape that you see. I then duplicated it 3 more times and rotated them into their positions, then finally adding a green material with yellow colour ramps and specular highlighting.

I then made the 2 bars at the top, these are 2 plane meshes that have been elongated by grabbing the edges and literally just pulling them, placing one behind the other. The materials are a slight light blue with reflection maps added.

The bubbles are just 32 segment uv spheres placed at different spots and scaled accordingly to fit within the composition. I then added a white material and then changed the alpha of all the sphere so they appear see through. After that, reflection maps were added.

The final stages were to encase all of the objects in the scene in a giant white shadeless cube (a boundary), if I did not do this then the default colour of Blender 3d (dark blue) would show up on all the reflection maps and not look they way i wanted it to. Lastly adding a non volumetric area light rather close to all the objects within the boundary cube so that the reflections and colours are really visible.

LEVEL 1 LOGO ANIMATION

www.kierantaylor.net/vids/l1vltest1.avi

OK, this short animation was done in Blender 3d for the crew over at www.level-1.org.uk. I was experimenting with text and volumetric lighting to achieve the effect that can be seen.

Firstly in Blender you can access all your true type fonts and convert them into three dimensional mesh objects with relative ease.

I selected the typeface i wanted to use, then extruded the rear faces of the array of letters so that they become actual 3d objects. After that phase I then created a black shadeless plane mesh for the foreground.

I then positioned the text so that it was sitting in the middle of the plane intersecting it and used the difference tool. The difference tool kind of stamps one object into another creating new faces on the target object, this made a dent of the text mesh into plane mesh.

With the newly dented plane mesh I began to delete these new faces on the plane so that it looks like a paper cut out, a square bit of paper with “level-1.org.uk” cut out of it.

With the plane in its new state, I wanted to use the cut out bits as portals for which light could flow through, so I put a volumetric spotlight behind the plane mesh and the proceeded to animate the light moving behind the plane from left to right.

1024×768 Blue Background For Angel At level 1

angels-background.jpgMy mate Angel (mod from over at level-1.org.uk) requested a new background for her computer. She wanted it to be blue and at 1024×768 pixels, so i rose to the challenge.

For this one the mesh started off as a 32 segment uv sphere, i then grabbed several clustered faces on different points of the sphere and pulled them about a bit using the grab tool. After that i selected several parts of the faces i had just grabbed and applied a spin funtcion, this resulted in the zig-zag pattern that can be seen. The material is blue with a very slight reflection map applied. I also used a black shadless plane mesh sitting behind the blue object for the background.
