I created this background for the CAD TECHNICIANS myspace page, I didn’t end up using it for the background because it interfered too much with the content. So, I am putting up here for download for your own computer background (1024×768 pixels).
Now for the details…
Using a cube, I extruded the faces to make the arrow shape that you see. I then duplicated it 3 more times and rotated them into their positions, then finally adding a green material with yellow colour ramps and specular highlighting.
I then made the 2 bars at the top, these are 2 plane meshes that have been elongated by grabbing the edges and literally just pulling them, placing one behind the other. The materials are a slight light blue with reflection maps added.
The bubbles are just 32 segment uv spheres placed at different spots and scaled accordingly to fit within the composition. I then added a white material and then changed the alpha of all the sphere so they appear see through. After that, reflection maps were added.
The final stages were to encase all of the objects in the scene in a giant white shadeless cube (a boundary), if I did not do this then the default colour of Blender 3d (dark blue) would show up on all the reflection maps and not look they way i wanted it to. Lastly adding a non volumetric area light rather close to all the objects within the boundary cube so that the reflections and colours are really visible.
